February posed a sort of reading slump for me. Maybe because I read so many books in January, or maybe because February is the shortest month. I didn’t read as much this month. On the bright side, what I did read was of much better quality. Four four-star and only one two-star.
Blood and Thunder is a book about Kit Carson. Carson was a hero of the old west. During his lifetime, pulp novels were written about him and they were called blood and thunder novels.
I enjoyed the book. Learning about the history of how the US took control of the southwestern United States was intriguing.
Stardust takes you on a fantastical ride into the great unknown. We follow a boy who makes a huge promise to a girl. Can he bring her a falling star?
The whole thing was just enjoyable. Kind of like a Disney movie.
Sapiens purports to discuss the history of humankind.
I heard rave reviews of this book. So my expectations were high. There were a lot of typos and unfactual information in the book. If what I know to be wrong is wrong in the book, I have to be skeptical of what I was learning. Very disappointing.
The First Five Pages is a writing craft book. While it purports to be about only the first pages, it really is just a general writing book.
I did find a lot of the advice in here worthwhile. I enjoyed reading it.
